DGM Meeresforum and YOUMARES
This year the German Society for Marine Research (DGM e.V.) celebrates its 35th anniversary. On this occasion, the DGM-Meeresforum will be hosted with the aim to promote the exchange and networking of stakeholders in marine research in Germany and develop perspectives for future research goals. Pulse lectures by renowned faculty members and innovative formats such as the "Barcamp" are intended to stimulate discussion between scientists, business and the public and develop ideas for future workshops on selected courses of action within the exploration of the Sea.

The event starts with the DGM General Assembly (September 14th, 2015) and ends with an "Icebreaker" (September 16th, 2015), which is jointly organized with YOUMARES 6. On a boat trip on the river Weser and a mentor program the close cooperation with young scientists is searched.

SPP Antarktisforschung presents: Women in (polar) research - panel discussion

Inspired by last years panel discussion at the ECC in Bremen on networking, we decided to organize  a panel discussion ourselves. At the ECC the discussion drifted into one direction that we want to look at more profoundly now: Women in research! As this will be supported by our partner program  "Antarctic Research with Comparable Investigations in Arctic Sea Ice" we have invited women that are working in polar sciences. Claudia Hanfland from the Helmholtz Graduate School for Polar and Marine Research (POLMAR, AWI Bremerhaven) will moderate the discussion between

  • KirchgaessnerDr. Amélie Kirchgaessner, who is working for the British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge as an Atmospheric Scientist. She has been a member of Earth Sciences Women’s Network (ESWN) for over ten years and is particularly interested in strengthening ESWN in Europe. Amélie recently spoke on a panel about networking at ESWN’s 2014 Networking Workshop in Kiel, Germany.

  • Prof. Dr. Caroline Y. Robertson-von Trotha, a founding member andRoberston-vonTrotha director of the ZAK, Centre for Cultural and General Studies at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). ZAK promotes interdisciplinarity at the University: it integrates substantial matter of social sciences and cultural studies into the study field of technological expertise, and vice versa, to impart economic and technological expertise to students of humanities and social sciences.

  • PiechullaProf. Dr. Birgit Piechulla, Vice Rector for Research and Research Education at Rostock University, who has not only published the reknown study book "Plant Biochemsistry", but also compiled vitae of different women who have become successful in their fields of research and starting family at the same time.

Partners: IUP and SEA Networks e.V.

YOUMARES 6 as well as the DGM-Meeresforum are taking place at the University of Bremen (NW1 building). Hosted by our partner the Institute of Environmental Physics (IUP), University of Bremen. A large foyer, several lecture halls and seminar rooms offer us exchange and discussion in smaller and bigger groups and furthermore room for the issue exhibition and poster.

We are also happy about our fruitful collaboration with SEA Networks e.V. who are also very dedicated to make this years YOUMARES Award a success

YOUMARES and SEA Networks encourage interested pupils and students to apply for the YOUMARES Award. This year commonly understandable scientific work (project work, documentation of private initiatives, not yet submitted papers, abstracts of theses) with an extent of min. 5,000 words (excluding references / directory) that were composed in German language will be considered. To participate, submit your document as PDF file until June 15th, 2015.

The winners will be awarded with wonderful prices by SEA Networks and HYDRA Institute. Take advantage to present your company or institution by sponsor YOUMARES or participate in our exhibition in order to support the young researcher community.
