The Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg was founded in 1973, making it one of Germany‘s young universities. Its goal is to find answers to the major challenges society faces in the 21st century – through interdisciplinary, cuttingedge research.

The Institute for Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment (ICBM) is an interdisciplinary research institute, dealing with fundamental and applied issues in marine and environmental research. The ICBM pays particular attention to networking and is an active member of the German Marine Research Consortium (KDM) and the Northwest Marine Research Association (NWVM).
